Rockcliffe First School

SEND

At Rockcliffe, we are proud to provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is supported, valued, and encouraged to thrive. We recognise that all children are unique, with their own strengths, needs, and ways of learning, and we believe that every learner has something special to contribute to our school community.

We are committed to working closely with children, families, and external professionals to ensure that appropriate support is in place so all learners can access the curriculum, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential. Through high-quality teaching, understanding, and care, we aim to remove barriers to learning and promote independence and resilience.

By celebrating differences and fostering a culture of respect and belonging, we ensure that every child feels safe, happy, and included - shining brightly together as part of our school family.

Our SENCO is Joanna Thompson and she is supported by our Early Years Lead, Lynsey Duggan, who oversees SEND in our Early Years. They can be contacted via the School Office. We have close contacts within the Local Authority to provide advice and support.

SENDIASS

SENDIASS are the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, Information, Advice and Support Service. They provide impartial advice on SEN to parents and carers

Connect

We are partnered with the Connect Mental Health Support Team who support schools to develop a wholeschool approach to emotional wellbeing, and signpost to relevant services and information to help meet the needs of children, young people, and families. Click on their logo or scan the QR code to link to Connect’s link tree for resources on resilience and managing emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Dyslexia & Dyscalculia

We are proud to be a Dyslexia Friendly School. Staff are knowledgeable and skilled in recognising and responding to literacy and numeracy difficulties, reasonable adjustments are embedded in everyday practice, and learners are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience, and independence. By removing barriers to learning and valuing individual differences, we help all children to achieve their best, and feel happy and supported throughout their learning journey.

We are supported by North Tyneside’s Dyslexia Team.
