Our Curriculum

Curriculum Intent

At Rockcliffe, our curriculum is designed to give pupils appropriate experiences to develop as confident individuals, responsible citizens and successful learners so that we are shining brightly together.

We want our children to be motivated and excited by learning, through engaging in a curriculum enhanced by a wealth of experiences and a rich cultural capital. We are committed to developing the ability of children to learn effectively, so they are equipped to fully embrace and succeed in our classrooms, in the ever-changing society in which we live or when experiencing transition.

We work hard to ensure our children have excellent attitudes and behaviour towards their own learning, demonstrating that We Rock through the 3Rs – Ready, Respectful and Responsible. We want them to be highly motivated and engaged, to have high expectations of themselves and be ambitious, wanting to achieve success.

We want to remove any barriers to learning and develop learning power by building growth mindsets. Whilst at work and at play, children are encouraged to use their Rockcliffe Learning Superpowers.

 Curriculum Drivers

Curriculum drivers shape our curriculum breadth. They are threads that run through our curriculum and ‘drive’ learning forward. They are derived from an understanding of the backgrounds of our pupils, our beliefs about high-quality education and our values. They are used to ensure we give our pupils appropriate and ambitious curriculum opportunities. These are: Community Cohesion, Sustainability, Creativity and Well-being.

Community Cohesion: We want our children to understand, appreciate and care for our world; be respectful; sensitive to the needs of others and be willing to make a positive contribution to our school, our local community, our country and the world. The personal, social and moral development of our children is all-important, as it is this that will enable them to be outstanding citizens.

Sustainability: We want to inspire children to think critically about global issues and reflect on their impact both locally and globally. Through a holistic, integrated approach, our curriculum empowers pupils with the knowledge, values, and practical skills needed to navigate and respond to current and future environmental and social challenges with confidence and compassion.

Creativity: Creativity is found at the heart of the Rockcliffe curriculum, incorporating activities that foster higher-order thinking, problem-solving and innovation across all subjects, not just the arts. Children are encouraged to engage and express their ideas in a variety of creative forms, to be imaginative and to use experiences and observations to make connections in their learning.

Wellbeing:  We strive to provide a curriculum that supports the development of both mental and physical well-being. We want our children to grow up feeling a valuable part of the world, knowing they have a contribution to make. We want them to have a strong moral compass and social skills to interact successfully with others; To recognise and respect the range of beliefs and cultures and have a curiosity about other people and places.
