Teacher Training

We at Rockcliffe First School are proud to be members of the North Tyneside SCITT (School Based Initial Teacher Training) provider, based at the Langdale Centre in Howdon. We welcome trainees into school each term, host annual Good Practice Days for all SCITT trainees in the teaching of Art, Outdoor Learning, Phonics and English as an Additional Language, and hold interviews for prospective SCITTies in our school.

We also host trainees from Northumbria University, mostly in Key Stage Two classes but sometimes in the Early Years Foundation Stage or Key Stage One. We find that welcoming these teachers of the future into our school has many benefits for our pupils and staff - and allows us to identify outstanding practitioners with the potential to become excellent Rockcliffe employees, like Miss Wilson, Mr Royle, Miss Thompson, Miss Palmer, Miss Nilson and Miss Hepple!

Our two Deputy Headteachers act as School Based Tutors for all Rockcliffe trainees. Mrs Ford is responsible for the North Tyneside SCITT students, whilst Miss Robinson takes care of Northumbria trainees.
